Château du Cléray Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie 2007
The first thing to be said is that there is Muscadet and Muscadet. Or to be more accurate, ‘industrial’Muscadet and ‘hand-made’Muscadet Sur Lie. Most of the best stuff spends up to a year sitting on its fermentation lees in tank or barrel, which fills out Muscadet's rather skeletal flavours with a bit of flesh and extra weight. Château du Cléray Sauvion, located in Vallet, in the heart of the Nantes vineyards, is one of the oldest estates of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine region and produce this single estate elegant citrus and aniseed-scented white from entirely estate grown fruit. The real deal!

Domaine de Baumard, 'Clos de St Yves' 2005
A simply stunning Chenin Blanc offering from a small, quality orientated producer in the Loire Valley. A beautiful, perfumed, elegant nose, which has a touch of honey and acacia. Warm and rounded palate, with straw and honey flavour, and a toffee thread too.

Domaine des Baumard Coteaux du Layon Carte d'Or 2005 (Half Bottle- 375mL)
The 2005 Coteaux du Layon Carte d’Or smells of grilled pineapple, baked quince and apple, and anise. In the mouth, it exhibits succulent richness of quince and melon, with a more enveloping and creamy if less fresh or elegant impression than its 2004 counterpart. It finishes with impressive length, if a slight youthfully superficial sweetness which will diminish even as the wine adds complexity over the next 5-7 years.
