Alana Estate, Sauvignon Blanc 2009
One of the most encouraging signs from the Alana vineyard and especially the Sauvignon Blanc is the consistency of fruit expression. This is highlighted by our attention to detail in the vineyard with cropping levels (approx 4 tonnes/acre), fruit exposure with leaf plucking and attention to high quality hand training during the growing season. The fruit handling with hand picking and whole bunch pressing allows the wine to be light and elegant; this pushes forward the mineral citrus expression of our place, and creates a style that works with food and bottle ages well.

Cloudy Bay, Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Scented and summery, the 2009 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc has deliciously vibrant aromatics that infuse the tropical fragrance of fresh passionfruit and juicy pineapples with garden-fresh basil and the spiciness of crushed tomato leaves. The palate is long and succulent, combining exotic fruits with ripe, red capsicum and a twist of green olive... beautifully complemented by crisp natural acidity and a hint of lime zest. WineMaker

Hans Herzog 'Grand Duc' Pinot Noir 2007
Originally intended to become part of the overall Pinot Noir blend, we felt these barrels were so special we had to keep them separate and so have created the ‘Grand Duc’. Harvested from a small section of the vineyard where the soil has a naturally high clay content, perfect for Pinot Noir. The wine underwent second malolactic fermentation in part new French oak barrels and then was aged for a further 18 months on its lees in 50% new French oak. Richly coloured in the glass with inviting aromas of ripe blackberry, raspberry and kirsch. The palate is full-bodied with a luscious, velvety texture, ripe dark cherry fruit aromas with undertones of cigar smoke and well-balanced acidity. Intense, elegant and complex. A perfect match for duck, pheasant or venison dishes. Will benefit from bottle ageing for up to 15 years. HERZOG

Hans Herzog 'Grande Duchesse' Sauvignon Blanc 2008
This special Sauvignon Blanc was created in the style of the great white wines of Bordeaux. These grapes were selected from a single block on the Estate which has notably stony soil reminiscent of the terroir in Bordeaux. Barrel fermented with wild yeasts in 100% new French oak before undergoing malolactic fermentation and matured for 12 months in the same barrel before bottling. Produced in very limited quantities, this is an exuberant white with aromas of creamy white fruits, mango and vanilla spice on the rich, full bodied palate. A backbone of zesty acidity balances the wine and adds finesse. Powerful yet delicate with a lingering finish. An excellent match with antipasti, duck liver paté or creamy veal dishes. HERZOG

Mount Difficulty, Pinot Noir 2008
This wine reflects the nature of a low yielding vintage, displaying great concentration and balance; black cherry and blackberry dominate the aroma and these are underpinned by Christmas cake spice and liquorice. The wine has a dark concentrated front palate which displays these same characters in abundance. The mid palate is fleshy and well textured. The wine finishes with a lovely combination of tannin and fruit.

Pegasus Bay, Pinot Noir 2006
The wine has a vibrant carmine hue. Its aromas and flavours are a complex interplay of fruity and savoury elements, suggesting cherries, raspberries and blackberries, intermingled with roast game, grilled mushrooms, black olives, liquorice and coffee. There is a dense core of fruit in the mouth that is supported by a backbone of firm, ripe tannins which flow evenly through the palate and should help the wine age gracefully. WineMaker
