Caillard, Mataro 2008
The brambly/ blackberry/ chamomile aromas, underlying fragrance of new oak, brawny but sinuous texture and mid-palate buoyancy give it both plenty of life and length. The blackberry / herb garden flavours, nuances of new oak, moderate alcohol and touches of earthiness give it a striking individuality.

This wine won the 2010 trophy for the best St. Laurent at the International Wine Challenge. It drinks very similar to a pinot noir.

Maxime Magnon La Démarrante VDP Vallée du Paradis Rouge 2008
La Démarrante an impossibly silken and delicious blend of Carignan and Cinsault which is unputdownable. Rozeta is blended from 65% old Carignan and the rest Grenache and Syrah; it’s got velvety rich and brambly fruit but with incredible freshness and clarity—perhaps Jean Foillard’s influence. Occhipinti Frappato 2007
Bright ruby, light-bodied-but darkly translucent. Lush floral aromatics with raspberry and a little basement and earthy funk on the nose. On the palate, loaded with raspberry, sour cherry and cranberry. Bright, fresh, pure and acidic. Stunning, lovable and delicious. Strongly recommended.

Puffenay Pulsard 2006
Poulsard, the 2nd of Jura’s indigenous red grapes, is a large, thin-skinned and rather lightly colored grape. this combination lends itself to long fermenting on the skins, a process that can yield the off-beat but intriguing combination of light body andm flavors that are intriguingly both delicate and intense at the same time. light-bodied but intense, tart cherries and white pepper meet crisp acidity and smooth but perceptible tannins on the palate. its lighter, structured style, not unlike a loire red, suggests pairing with poultry, pork or cheese.
Sean Thackrey, Pleiades XVIII NV
A non-vintage winery blend, made with the express purpose of providing delight. This is still no shrinking violet. Medium bodied, fine yet warm, with lovely aromatics and body that defy the concepts of varietal. The label says it all “…to delight the jaded, offend the Wine Police and go well with anything red wine goes well with.”
