Head Wines, "Red" Shiraz Viognier 2009
This is a declassified blend of both "The Blonde" and "The Brunette" resulting in an extremely limited edition wine called: Head Red. In a case which exemplifies the proverb that "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" this wine is a stunner and not to be missed. Longer oak maturation has rounded this wine, however there is still a complex underlying structure and lifted fruit characteristics which come from the Brunette and Blonde respectively.

Hentley Farm Shiraz 2007
We tasting this vin 29/03/09 in store with the winemaker. Seemless, medium to full bodied Barossa Shiraz. One thing we don't like about many SA reds are the things that stick out of them, be it too much alcohol, sweet sickly fruit or American oak. This is one wine which we can drink more then one glass of, a complete wine, that sits comfortable at it's level and at table. It's a pleasure to see someone getting it right and it's great to be able to recommended such Aussie shiraz. Also check out their other 07s.

Penfolds Grange Hermitage MAGNUM 1998
The 1998 Grange will be legendary. A blend of 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, it tips the scales at a whopping 14.5% alcohol. The inky/purple color is followed by an extraordinarily intense nose of creme de cassis intermixed with blueberry and floral notes. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of meat, plums, and cola also emerge. It is a seamless effort with sweet tannin, well-integrated acidity, sensational extract, and layer upon layer of blackberry and cassis fruit that stain the palate and fill the mouth. Its harmony, freshness, and remarkable length (the finish lasts nearly a minute) suggest an all-time classic. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030. Wine Advocate # 148 Aug 2003 Robert Parker 99pts.

Penfolds Grange Hermitage MAGNUM 1999
The first 100% shiraz Grange since 1963, and an excellent follow on to the 1998 vintage. ayers of fruit, with blackberry and blueberry to the fore, as suggested by the nose. An underlying tarriness and new oak are seamlessly absorbed. A mass of fine grained tannins court a firm tight finish of great length. The wine possesses the essential ingredients of the marque, richness, harmony, and balance. A fitting Grange release to end the 1900’s, with decades of life ahead.
