Battley, Syrah 2006
Battely is owned by Dr Russell Bourne, he is also the winemaker and viticulturist. Located on the site of the old Brown Brothers Everton Hills vineyard, this superbly sited and well drained granite based vineyard was planted in 1998 to Syrah, Durif, Marsanne and a little Viognier. The vineyard is slightly lower in altitude than its neighbor Giaconda, and as a result the site is a little warmer and ripens before some other Beechworth producers.

Dalwhinnie, Shiraz 2006
Dalwhinnie's shiraz vines are 30 years old, but even when young they produced outstanding wine. It is no surprise that this vintage should flood the mouth with perfectly ripened black cherry, plum and blackberry fruit, the oak positive but seamless, the tannins likewise. A delicious wine with great mouthfeel, line and length. From: Pyrenees, Victoria; Drink: Now-2020; $58, C, 14.3%; 96 points & Halliday’s Top 100 – The Weekend Australian November 10-11, 2007

Delas, Freres Hermitage "les Bessards" 2005
Black/purple to the rim, the sensational 2005 Hermitage Les Bessards possesses a classic bouquet of graphite, licorice, creme de cassis, and a touch of background oak. Massive, even monstrous in the mouth with enormous extract, this is a 50-60 year wine. It is full-bodied, high in tannin, and should not be touched for another decade. It will keep through 2050+. Domaine du Tix Cuvee De Bramefan (Syrah -Cote du Ventoux) 2007
This just could be the best Cotes du Ventoux I've ever tasted. It has more richness and depth and a lovely spectrum of ripely spicy shiraz flavours and aromas, without obstruction from oak. The colour is deep and purple-edged, the nose is meaty, nutty and plummy with an array of spicy nuances. The ripeness is spot-on., with no sign of greenness or jaminess, and the alcohol accordingly is a very moderate 13.5 percent. It's fruit driven and gracefully structured with fine texture and a seemless balance. It comes into its own with food: rare steak is perfect. Drink now and for at least six years. 93/100 Huon Hooke, SMH Good Living 8 Sept 2009
