Campo Viejo, Rioja Crinza 2006
Ruby red in colour with sweet cherry aromas and silky oaky flavours. Light, smooth velvety texture. A typical Rioja wine with great fruit concentration. The sweet berry aromas of the Tempranillo grape mingle with the vanilla imparted by the oak. 75% Tempranillo, 20% Granacha 5% Mazuelo. Aged 12 months in oak casks.

Coto de Hayas, Garnacha cantenaria 2006
This wine has been aged for four months in American oak barrels. The colour is a clear and bright cherry red, on the nose the aromas are potent, strongly reflecting the grape variety with spicy hints afforded by the "crianza" in oak casks and the maturing in bottle. IN the mouth it is smooth, full tasting and well-structured and lingers on.

Cuatro Pasos, Bierzo 2006
Mencia grape out of Bierzo, Spain, see what all's the fuss is about. This wine over delivers. Bright savoury red and black friuts abound, as well as having a certain rawness that's uplifting. Yeh, nice stuff, mmmm.

Granbazan, 'Ambar' Albarino 2007
The Albarino grape is native to the coast-hugging DO of Rias Baixas in Galicia, the green region in Spain’s north-western corner. It has small, very sweet, glyceric berries which comfortably weather the moist conditions to produce high quality wines. Albarino’s varietal character is somewhere between Riesling and Muscat (as practised in dry Alsatian wines) and it is an excellent accompaniment to seafood, with which the Rias Baixas region abounds. The 13 hectare estate is a modern complex surrounded by low-cropping vineyards trained on overhead arbours, promoting ventilation from the Atlantic to reduce disease and eliminate frost. Soils are granitic, promoting minerality in the wine. Bunch weights are kept low at average 100-200 grams, giving total yields less than eight tonnes per hectare. Winemaking is simple: the fruit is cooled and then undergoes six to eight hours pre-fermentation cold-maceration in rotary steeping devices, prior to fermentation at low temperature in stainless steel, using a combination of cultured and wild yeasts. All this is designed to perfectly capture the elusive essence of the Albarino grape, and Granbazan is very good at capturing it! Just the right dose of tart and crisp citrus fruit, driven by a fresh, lemon/lime aspect which is surrounded by peach, green apple flavours and a light hint of musk, finishing whistle-clean and dry.

Lustau, Centenary Year Amontillado
Amber, golden hues with perfect clarity. Aromas of ripe fruit. A text book Amontillado of great maturity, the medium dry Centenary offers good body as well as a heady personality. A huge nose with great balance intensity and acidity on the palate, as well as a scorched earth/roasted nut character, it is stunning flavourful yet light crisp. Not completely dry but with titillating nuances of ripe orchard fruit, temperate and soft, its palate gives a hint of wood and smoky raisins. A powerful and distinctive nutty bouquet. A better Amontillado would be difficult to find.

Lustau, Reserva Pedro Ximenez San Emilio Sherry
Deep, dark brown and viscous, almost black in colour. Redolent of ripe fruit with the distinct varietal aroma of the Pedro Ximénez. A pronounced and delicious bouquet of the essence of sweet raisins. Rich, sweet, velvety and soft in the mouth, well balanced, with a long finish showing the wine's great age. The taste is very sweet, smooth, pronounced and delicous just like dried raisins or sweet grape juice. Serve at cool room temperature with rich desserts, cakes and pastries, or pour a little over the best quality vanilla ice cream. This wine can also accompany a cheese course, or simply serve as a digestif for the sweet toothed

Marques de Velilla, Crianza 2004
The nose opens up with notes of vanilla coke, earthy red cherry and red currant, a bit of coffee grounds with some wild geranium and lavender. Tight and focused on the palate with juicy, juby fruit: blueberry and cherry, pen ink and sage. Lovely rustic, but fluffy tannins and a fine backbone of acid reinforcing the whole thing. This is right on the money. TINTO Y BLANCO

Muga Blanco Barrel Fermented (Rioja) 2008
This wine is one of our FAVS!!!!!! Give it a bit of air and you'll find it'll float between Chassagne, Pouiily Fuisse and Hunter Sem! The wines seems to have eaten any noticable oak, Bravo! It's great structure, extremely long finish and that tell tale greenish hue make us think it could build on these favourable characters with a few years in a cool cellar!
