Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
97 points Allen Meadows :There is enough wood to notice framing the exuberantly spicy red and dark currant aromas that display an abundance of sauvage and earth nuances. The cool and pure medium weight plus flavors are remarkably refined for a young Chambertin yet there is clearly plenty of power lurking beneath the refined veneer. This is a big but not massive vintage for the Rousseau Cham and I like the sense of proportion and particularly so on the harmonious, superbly long and seamlessly well-balanced finale. As is the case with the 2015 vintage, it's going to be very interesting to see which of these two is the better wine in 15 to 20 years.

18.5+/20 Jancis Robinson : Very majestic and autumnal on the nose. Very concentrated and all in the future. Not weak at all with much more obvious ripe fruit in the middle than Clos de Beze. Dense and very dry and savoury but the fruit more than stands up to the new oak. Magnificent. Vibrato.

Armand Rousseau, Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2014
93-96 Allen Meadows: In 2014 it's as though the Clos de Bèze and Chambertin have switched places in the sense that this is less expressive, super powerful and appears to be the more structured of the two as well. A discreetly spicy nose consists of sandalwood, essence of black cherry liqueur, violets and a hint of the sauvage. There is seriously good size, weight and power to the imposingly scaled flavors that display almost painful intensity on the driving, explosively long and very firmly structured finish. Unlike most vintages this is actually the harder of the two wines to read today though everything appears to be in place to allow this to age brilliantly.

18.5/20 Jancis Robinson : 100% new oak. Intense, splendidly purple somehow nose. Black fruits and liqueur-like. Lots of structure and very embryonic. The oak is still pretty obvious. Great framework. Energy.

Chateau D'Esclans 'Rock Angel' Rose 2016

From Rock Angel onwards these are produced 100% from estate grapes (some now leased but still worked entirely by the chateau). When this launched, I found this to be the heaviest wine of the range, but today find it the most improved with more clear personality than the Whispering Angel today. A pale, barely-there pink, with a pure, youthful nose that is both fresh yet intense on the palate. Citrus-rinsed redcurrant fruits from both Grenache and Rolle, with no noticeable oak, although it is aged in 600 litre barrels. 92 Points Decanter
