Domaine Chandon de Briailles, Corton Les Maréchaudes Grand Cru 2002
Very tight and reserved, indeed this is presently almost completely inexpressive aromatically and the flavors are supple and even a bit light though they offer good punch and plenty of authority. The finish is generous and persistent but I can only assume that the mise has caused this to shut down because the wine is not at its usual standard and my score offers the benefit of the doubt. Domaine Confuron-Cotétidot, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 2004
Spicy but reserved and on the cool side with the same crushed herb hints that lead to ripe but still awkward, tight and backward flavors that are rather structured though the tannins are velvety. There is really good density here for the vintage but this will need plenty of time in bottle. Burghound Jan 01, 2007 88 Points Drink: 2014

Domaine Hubert de Montille, Corton Pougets Grand Cru 2004
Noticeable if not intrusive wood frames earthy, sweet and dried flower aromas that continue onto the elegant, pure and detailed flavors that display ample minerality and outstanding length. Pougets is naturally a much finer Corton (if chardonnay is planted here is can be declared as Corton-Charlemagne) and true to form, this is firmly structured but the tannins are really very fine. In short, this is powerful yet it remains essentially a wine of finesse. Burghound Apr 01, 2006 90-93 Points Drink: 2012+

Domaine Hubert de Montille, Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pézerolles" 2004
A beautifully expressive and enveloping nose of dark berry fruit notes and violet highlights lead to rich, full and sweet flavors that offer excellent depth and a detailed, pure and intense mineral-infused finish where the balance is near perfect. This is not a powerful wine but rather one of harmony and elegance. Burghound Apr 01, 2006 88-91 Points Drink: 2010+

Domaine Hubert de Montille, Pommard 1er Cru "Les Rugiens" 2004
This too displays a background hint of wood influence, framing a highly expressive nose of raspberry liqueur and violets and spice followed by minerally and relatively finely detailed flavors built on a solid base of minerality and a complex, powerful and exceptionally long finish. This is a bit awkward today and will need time in bottle to really come into its own. Then again, this is Rugiens and it's in no rush. Burghound Apr 01, 2006 90-92 Points Drink: 2012+

Domaine Hubert de Montille, Volnay "Taillepieds" 2004
A discreet nose of exceptionally pretty red pinot fruit aromas nuanced by rose petal and mineral notes dissolve into rich, detailed and admirably pure medium weight flavors that offer excellent freshness and solid finishing depth and length. This finishes with a distinctly dusty character yet the tannins are riper than any of the foregoing wines. Interestingly, this is really quite accessible and forward for a young Taillepieds.A discreet nose of exceptionally pretty red pinot fruit aromas nuanced by rose petal and mineral notes dissolve into rich, detailed and admirably pure medium weight flavors that offer excellent freshness and solid finishing depth and length.
