Domaine Hubert de Montille, Volnay "Taillepieds" 2004
A discreet nose of exceptionally pretty red pinot fruit aromas nuanced by rose petal and mineral notes dissolve into rich, detailed and admirably pure medium weight flavors that offer excellent freshness and solid finishing depth and length. This finishes with a distinctly dusty character yet the tannins are riper than any of the foregoing wines. This is wonderfully perfumed with a penetrating mix of red, black and violet aromas that precede rich, sweet and intense flavors that offer excellent volume and a beautifully textured mouth feel that combines both excellent balance and ample underlying material. I quite like this as it's a lovely effort period and particularly so for the vintage. Score: 91 Drink: 2009+ Comments: Outstanding! BURGHOUND

Fresh, ripe and complex earthy red fruit aromas introduce big, rich and sweet flavors that deliver plenty of punch but they're not robust or unduly hard because while the tannins are very firm, they are well-integrated. There is an element of reserve here yet the flavors are delicious and possess plenty of flesh. Lovely stuff that will age well. Score: 92 Drink: 2010+ Comments: Outstanding! BURGHOUND

Higher-toned and finer aromas of layered red fruits that are actually slightly less complex complement perfectly the sweet, delicious and impeccably balanced middle weight flavors that possess a quite similar tannic structure, which is to say firm but refined, all wrapped in a long and persistent finish.
