Haskell IV 2007
It’s a blend of cabernet sauvignon (70%), merlot (20%), cabernet franc and petit verdot. It’s made from vines that are roughly ten years old, growing in the Helderberg mountain range in Stellenbosch. At four years of age it’s ready to rip. It’s already mellowed nicely – though it will age easily and well over the next handful of years. It tastes of leather and pure blackcurrant, hung game and dried tobacco. The finish/tannin is dry and ultra fine-grained, its length assured. It’s very much a medium weight wine, in a positive sense. Personally I loved its balance and easy-going flow of flavour. 93 points. Campbell Mattinson.
