The 2016 Chablis Bas de Chapelot has been in used barrels since March. It has a lovely bouquet, quite intense with subtle orange rind scents infusing the cold wet stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with good concentration on the entry and a fine line of acidity. This is not a complex Chablis but it does come replete with a spicy finish. I will be modest with my score for now as I discern more promise with respect to the premier cru Butteaux. Neal Martin, Wine Advocate 88-90/100
'Pale yellow. Sexy brown spices and a hint of nectarine on the nose; nicely high-pitched for 2015. Very ripe. Very dry, savory Chablis with lovely mouth feel, but its rather austere, crushed-rock flavors will need time to blossom in bottle. Seriously concentrated, tactile wine with lovely rocky mineral character. This strikes me as rich in extract but quite backward for the year, almost peppery on the back end.' A fine example of this Classic appellation!
