The Clos de la Roilette, in the village of Fleurie, covers nine hectares of one of the best slopes in the Beaujolais Crus. The clos has an eastern exposure, borders the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, and produces wines that are beautiful when young and have the capacity to age, especially the 'TARDIVE' cuvee selection!
"Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru from Vougeraie clearly has some stem addition on the nose but it works well: the fruit seems ripe and it does not obscure the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, sour cherry and strawberry with a fine line of acidity threaded through from start to finish, lending focus and harmony. Still a baby, give this 2-3 more years before broaching."
Tasted September 2017. - Neal Martin
The 2016 rosé has a pale cherry color with a slight copper tinge. It is full-bodied and well structured, with fresh red berry fruit, tart apple skin, and notes of spice and dried herbs. As usual, it is a blend of 41% Grenache, 33% Mourvedre, and 26% Cinsault all of which is direct-press juice. The color is a bit lighter than last year’s, but the wine has a bit more power behind it.
