Matias Riccitelli Uco Malbec 2016

Founded in 2009 and born into winemaking, Matias Riccitelli is located in the traditional area of Lujánde Cuyo, which is considered to be part of the North Zone of wines from Argentina, within the large region of Mendoza with fruit also sourced from several different vineyard sites, including stepping outside of the North Zone to the higher altitude Zone of the Uco Valley, 1450 metres above sealevel, southwest of their facility location.

Malbec is definitely the star for this producer, as they endeavor to explore the variety in every possible way, by using a combination of concrete vats and barrels/foudre of all ages.

Mewstone, 'Hughes & Hughes' Pinot Noir 2018

Hughes & Hughes has been established by brothers Jonathan and Matthew.

Matt works the grapes, Jonny makes the wines, taking what he learnt from seven years as assistant winemaker at Moorilla and re-imagining it for his own label.

The Hughes & Hughes wines offer some of the best value to be found in Tasmania at the moment, and the Mewstone premium range focuses on exception single-vineyard wines made in a style that Jonny wants to drink.

This Pinot Noir brings together fruit from vineyards in the Derwent and Coal River Valleys. Predominantly whole berry, 10% whole bunch R71 yeast, pressed to and matured in oak. Unfined and unfiltered

"Perfumed, silky, super-fresh and super-drinkable. Pinot noir in a very good place. Musk, cranberry, red cherry and twiggy herbs, though the latter are finely-stitched and understated. There’s a tartness and a fruit sweetness though it’s not a tug of war; they play nicely together. I drank one glass of this over three consecutive days and it remained fresh, vivid, interesting and delicious throughout. No hesitation in recommending this." - 92 Points Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Mount Mary Triolet 2015
The Triolet, first produced at this vineyard in 1987, was inspired by the whites of Graves, Bordeaux. The vineyard is planted to 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon and 10% Muscadelle. Each variety is picked at optimum ripeness, and is usually fermented separately. The characteristics of optimum ripeness are different for each variety. We pick the Sauvignon Blanc after the strong herbaceous flavours have gone; the Semillon when the acid is not too harsh; and the Muscadelle when the flavour intensity peaks. In the winery we use mostly older barrels for this wine, with the entire production being barrel fermented. We use grape solids to give the wine texture, and lees stirring to add complexity and body. The Triolet is typically aged for 11 months, by which time the overt fruity flavours have diminished, and complex aromas start to develop. Sam Middleton

Muga, Rioja Reserva 2018 (375mls)

The 2015 Reserva had just been bottled, and it should be released around January 2019 in the international market and in Spain (as Crianza) in October 2018. This was a very long harvest (similar to 2016). They started at the end of August with the Cava, and they finished at the end of October with very healthy grapes, good yields and very good quality. The wine shows very good ripeness but without any excess. It has incipient complexity, still young and undeveloped but with very good balance between power and elegance, with fine-grained tannins and integrated acidity. This has to be one of the best recent vintages of this popular bottling. 92/100 Robert Parkers Wine Advocate

Nino Negri, Sassella 'Le Tense' ( Valtellina) 2013

Nebbiolo grape : These vines are planted in some of the best crus in the Sassella subzone: Minè, Chiesa Sassella, Grigioni-Cà Binaca. The vines are trained with the arched variant of the Guyot system (3500 vines/hectare), on poor, stony, shallow soil, tending towards dryness, at a height of 400-450 metres. 6 tonnes of grapes were produced per hectare. A full flavour, smooth but well sustained, very tasty with great elegance and harmony. Pleasant undertones of prunes and persistent spices.
