This exuberant white opens with aromas of tropical fruit, ripe Packham pear and wild herb that carry through to the round, full-bodied palate. Fresh acidity brightens the rich flavors while a mineral note closes the finish.
Maturation took over 11 months on lees in French oak barriques. The nose is lifted, offering briary fruit dominated by fresh cherries, blueberries and complex nutmeg spice. The palate is full, flavoursome and long with evident fine tannins.
Appassimento refers to drying grapes and comes from one of the most ancient methods used to make wine. Passi Reale is made grying the grapes on the plants first - cordon cut method - then completing the process in the cellar with crates.
The white grapes are dried for a shorter period (15 days) than the reds (3 to 4 months) to retain more freshness. This wine is 70% Trebbiano and 30% Chardonnay. Wine is fermented on lees in tank then aged for 4 months in the vessel without racking. The dried element gives the wine some amazing aromatics and a soft, luscious mid palate.
