Livio Felluga Friulano 2015

Bright yellow in colour with wonderful greenish reflections. The nose is rich and multifaceted, with floral and tropical notes of oleander blossoms, ash and plum, layered with gooseberry, guava and kiwi; a white rose accent, holly sprouts, honey and custard ice cream. The palate is full, fresh and savory, the tannins will continue to be pleasant; it has hints of apricot, kiwi, goji, cranberry, medlar, almond milk, coriander and a balsamic note of mallow.

Livio Felluga emigrated from Istria and established his property in Brazzano in the 1950s. Convinced of the winemaking potential inherent in Collio and the Colli Orientali of Friuli, he bucked the trend of the times and started buying vineyards. He now has an amazing property. Recently revitalised by Livio’s four children (Andrea, Maurizio, Elda and Filippo), the estate is well on the way to claiming its rightful place among the great producers in Italy.

Mount Mary Triolet 2015
The Triolet, first produced at this vineyard in 1987, was inspired by the whites of Graves, Bordeaux. The vineyard is planted to 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon and 10% Muscadelle. Each variety is picked at optimum ripeness, and is usually fermented separately. The characteristics of optimum ripeness are different for each variety. We pick the Sauvignon Blanc after the strong herbaceous flavours have gone; the Semillon when the acid is not too harsh; and the Muscadelle when the flavour intensity peaks. In the winery we use mostly older barrels for this wine, with the entire production being barrel fermented. We use grape solids to give the wine texture, and lees stirring to add complexity and body. The Triolet is typically aged for 11 months, by which time the overt fruity flavours have diminished, and complex aromas start to develop. Sam Middleton

Passi Reali Vino Organico Appassimeto Bianco 2015

Appassimento refers to drying grapes and comes from one of the most ancient methods used to make wine. Passi Reale is made grying the grapes on the plants first - cordon cut method - then completing the process in the cellar with crates.

The white grapes are dried for a shorter period (15 days) than the reds (3 to 4 months) to retain more freshness. This wine is 70% Trebbiano and 30% Chardonnay. Wine is fermented on lees in tank then aged for 4 months in the vessel without racking. The dried element gives the wine some amazing aromatics and a soft, luscious mid palate.
