The Wine

2021 was a perfect year for this wine.  Cooler conditions have allowed bright, intense berry flavours to develop: perfect for this fruit driven style.  Much less oak influence than its big sister wine (Secret Village Pinot Noir) means the Blue Label is a fresher, lighter style.  This wine will be perfect for the Autumn weather.  Try with Tuna on the BBQ or Peking style Duck. Indigo Vineyards

"The 2021 growing conditions at Indigo were exceptional cool. The wine reflects this, coming in at only at only 12.5% alc. Friends, if you want a stack of obvious fruit you wont find it here.  Do I like the wine, yes. It's unlike most of Aussie Pinots I come across, It's fruit profile, acid structure and translucent colour are not elements I've encountered in local interpretations much. Think Haut Cote de Beaune or Bourgogne Rouge, along those lines and if you appreciate what that representsthere is a good a chance you'll like this wine. For me it does have a hint of the Beechworth 'red winey' Pinot stamp, but overlayed on a Burgundian inspired structure, I like it and makes me keep topping up my glass to decipher the subtle 'Indigo' code a little further. Would more then happily revisit! TC

On the 2019 : "Lovely colour, is indigo. When I was a kid, I used to fill my fountain pen with Parker’s ‘Royal Blue’ ink, which was more or less indigo in colour when it dried. Strawberries and fresh mint, some spiced cedar and vanilla perfume. It’s light, sweet strawberry with some squished red fruit, a little sappy acidity, soft tannin and a moderate finish, a little earth and spice coming through. Nice to drink. Easy going." 90/100 Gary Walsh The Wine Front

About the Wine Maker

Indigo Vineyard has a little over 46ha of vineyards planted to 11 varieties, which makes it quite a large vineyard footprint for Beechworth. The vineyard was originally established to supply Brokenwood with high quality grapes however in recent years more and more of the production has been directed towards in the Indigo label itself.
