Bink 'Sergeant J' Grenache 2022
The Wine
20% whole bunch, 80% destemmed fruit on top, Fermented dry on skins.
This is the first year Janssen has worked with the Langhorne Creek block, which is on sandy soils over limestone over clay. The Barossa block, at the edge of Vine Vale, sits on alluvial sandy/clay soils on the Barossa Valley floor.
The Barossa fruit (85%) was picked on the March 7, and 70% whole bunches spent time in French hogsheads and barrels. The Langhorne Creek fruit was picked one day later and was 100% destemmed and fermented to dryness on skins before being pressed to large French puncheons for a quick rest before bottling.
Superb all-rounder, chilled or room temp!
