Cascina Tavijn 'Signora' Grappa (Grappa di Ruche)
The Wine
“This Grappa is just delightful, right down to the label! Its made from the family’s Ruche grapes, and bottled by friends at Distilleria Cascina La Noce. The Ruche grape (red grape/white juice) is quite tannic but very aromatic, and its this attribute that shines here! Delicate mountain floral scent captivate over the underlying fire, but this fire burns cool… so as not to interfere with the experience. This is a seriously moorish digistive that calls for total immersion! Just one hundred bottles were produced.” TC

About the Wine Maker
Nadia Verrua’s family has been making wines in the hills of Monferrato in the province of Asti (Piemonte) for over a century. Their ten hectares of land are farmed organically and split equally between vines bearing local grape varieties and hazelnut trees. It’s a little secret that Nadia’s mum Teresa makes one of the best torta di nocciole in all of Piemonte. Things have always been done properly here and it shows. The fruit comes from healthy vines planted on soft, sandy slopes and the resulting wines are charming, rustic and pure. The idea is not to add too much, not to take away, and the resulting wines are joyful and delicious, a pleasure to drink.
