About the Wine Maker
In 1984, the artist Sandro Chia purchased the Romitorio, bringing with him a dedication to studying, exploring, and promoting Brunello di Montalcino wine. His captivating works not only grace the labels but also enhance the winery with his sculptures and art. The estate boasts vineyards in Montalcino, nestled between 198m and 500m amidst dense oak forests. Today, Sandro's son Filippo manages the winery, and under his guidance, the range has quietly earned significant critical acclaim.
CASTELLO ROMITORIO'S WINES ARE SOME OF MONTALCINO'S SLEEKEST AND MOST PERFUMED...’IAN D'AGATA.COM
‘Castello Romitorio has cool vineyard sites and is one of the few estates that performs consistently in the warmest years. That’s why the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is just so darn good. This estate has tweaked its winemaking style over the years to produce increasingly elegant and streamlined wines. There is finesse here, but you also get bold cherry fruit, moist earth, cured tobacco and grilled herb. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth, with good acidity on the close.’
Monica Larner, Wine Spectator.
