The Wine

This lieu-dit lies very close to the border of Morgon in the northern part of the Morgon appellation bordering on to Fleurie. From a plot of 60+ year old vines with very low yields giving a wine of great depth and ageing potential. The 2018 vintage of this wine is strikingly deep and concentrated yet with freshness and ample balance to both enjoy now or to cellar with confidence. Rich and spicy yet so attractive right now!

About the Wine Maker

Clos de Mez is owned and run by Marie-Elodie Zighera-Confuron, who inherited a small collection of beautiful old vineyards in Beaujolais from her grand-mother which had been passed down through the family for generations and where she had spent time growing up as a child. Marie studied winemaking in Dijon. She is married to the owner of the great Burgundy Estate Confuron-Coteidot and she splits her time between here and Clos de Mez. A very hands off made wine, intervening very little. Winemaking with whole grape bunches; semi-carbonic fermentation in cement vats only. The wine retains its fresh, fruity character; it is bottled after 9 months of maturation, in vats. Jeremy Seysses of Domaine Dujac buys her wines for his cellar which is an endorsement itself!
