The Wine
92-94 Points; Joe Czerwinski; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate "Deeper and more concentrated than the 2018, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape is as impressive as I can remember this cuvée ever being. Dark in hue, overflowing with dark fruit, full-bodied and velvety in texture, with a long, licorice-tinged finish, this looks very promising. Date: Oct 2020; Drink: 2021-2030"

About the Wine Maker
Clos St Jean is run by brothers Vincent and Pascal Maurel. Considered by many critics as the pre-eminent estate espousing the modern style of winemaking in Châteauneuf, the estate is one of the oldest in the region, having been founded in 1900 by the great-great-grandfather of Vincent and Pascal. The vineyards of Clos Saint Jean are primarily located in the region of Châteauneuf known as Le Crau. This plateau is the most iconic of the many terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape – iron-rich red clays topped with galets. In the cellar, the reds are 90% destemmed and fermented in concrete with delestage for the Grenache and pigeage for the Syrah & Mourvedre. Ageing varies from tank and concrete to barriques and demi-muids.
