Domaine de Ferrand Cotes du Rhone 'Vieilles Vignes' 2022
$45.00 in mix 6+
$50.00 per bottle
The Wine
Made from very old vines, the 22 is an excellent example of this wine, comparable to his Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The grapes come from a plot planted in 1920, almost within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, separated only by a narrow country road. The price is astonishingly low considering the quality of the wine. This Côtes Du Rhône VV consistently surpasses most Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines!

About the Wine Maker
Although only a few will ever get to these wines as the Domaine is very small (only 5 ½ ha in Châteauneuf-duape and 10 ha of Côtes du Rhône, with over half on vines approaching 100 years old), they are well worth the effort to find.
All the vines are situated in the lieu-dit Chemin Saint Jean, the same northern holy grail as Charvin, Beaucastel, Marcoux, and La Vieille Julienne.
The current custodian, Philippe Bravay, employs organic growing techniques severely limits his yields (less than 2 tonnes per acre for his Côtes du Rhône, and even less for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape). Vinification is traditional, using open-top fermenters, presses, and cement cuves. A producer to follow!
