The Wine

It’s all 100% old vine Upper Yarra Valley from a steep volcanic site thats fast draining at 350 metres above sea level. The elevation is ideal for Chardonnay and allows for slower ripening periods that produce intense and complex flavours. It is always hand picked, gently pressed as whole bunches and fermented in French oak which was made up of 25% new. The cool, wet year ensured it had plenty crisp acidity and purity with lots of citrus characters and drive. To help accentuate weight and mouthfeel, it allowed the wine to go through a slightly higher than usual amount of malolactic fermentation (35%). Lees stirring occasionally in around half of the barrels to build texture and complexity. This vineyard produces chardonnay with great finesse and body and this release is no exception. Mature old vines deliver fantastic structure and length.
