Francois Lumpp Givry 1er Cru Petit Marole Rouge 2019
The Wine
Petit Marole is eastern, southeastern sun exposure, 853 feet above sea level. The vineyard sits at the top of the middle part of the appellation leaning more to ‘north clay’ styles. The domaine owns .76 hectares of this 1er Cru. Of all the 1er Crus reds, this one is the most enjoyable early on!
Grapes are 100'%' destemmed, fermented in open top tanks. No racking after pressing and placed in Taransaud barrels of which 70% new. Anne-Cecile (daughter) mentions that you can hardly see the toasting in the barrels it so light. No racking during elevage, 12 months.
“2019 vintage….the most brilliant I've ever tasted at this address.” William Kelley,
“…The best examples of Givry can have substantial structure, depth, and complexity and can be expected to age as successfully as the premier crus of the Côte de Beaune, which is certainly the case at this address.” Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant LA
“Here too the expressive nose is quite fresh with its nose of essence of plum, cassis, spice and a very subtle hint of wood. The suave, round and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors conclude in a sappy, long and relatively powerful bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. At least some patience will be necessary” 89-92/100 Alan Meadow Burghound
