Herve Souhart St Joseph 'Sainte Epine' 2020
The Wine
Yields: 25 hl/ha 1,500 bottles annually The Saint Epine vineyard is located right behind Hervé and Beatrice Souhaut’s house in the village of Tournon - which is literally straight accross the Rhone River from the hill of Hermitage. This site is basically identical to the granite soils prevalent in the Bessards lieu-dit in Hermitage, yet the soil is slightly more acidic and it is cooler and windier. It lies on an extremely steep slope that is terraced with old rock walls. Vine age is 100 plus year-old non-cloned vines! A wine of contemplation and inspiration displaying Syrah’s nobility and virility alongside a myriad of exquisite fragrances and a superfine texture. This wine is very rare indeed and will repay careful cellaring handsomely!
