The Wine

"Medium to deep colour, bright and purple-tinged. The bouquet is spicy and ferrous-minerally, ironstony, which translates into the mouth where it is full-bodied and terrifically intense, with firm grip and driving length. A superbly structured and concentrated pinot with tremendous persistence. The complex flavours resonate for a long time after the wine is gone. A most impressive and delicious pinot." - 97/100 Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

"The perfume here is almost Chambolle-like, with dry spices, fresh red cherries, forest floor and leaves. Handy layering on the palate with fine-cut tannins that deliver gently tart red-cherry flavors. Elegant pinot with real power. Drink over the next eight years." - 96/100 Nick Stock (James Suckling)

About the Wine Maker

The Hurley Vineyard wines are a set of Pinot Noirs built out of a singular focus shared by husband and wife team, Kevin Bell and Tricia Byrnes. The vineyard is located in Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula. If vintage conditions allow, three separate Pinot Noirs from three individual blocks are made, showcasing the differences in style across their excellent site. The original Hurley Farm was established by Irish settlers William and Johanna Hurley back in the 1860s. Burgundy clearly inspired them to this endeavour, not to mimic the wines from the Cote d’Or in terms of taste but the ethos of single site expressions, terrior driven wines.
