Indigo Vineyard 'Blue Label' Beechworth Chardonnay 2021
This Chardonnay was matured for 11 months before bottling. The oak was 100% French predominantly 300 litre Hogsheads with 27% new oak. The cooler conditions of 2021 have given us a crisp, excellent Chardonnays with the typical Beechworth combination of minerality and finesse. Its lean style demonstrates a sophisticated combination of fruit and oak. Minimal intervention is required to maximize chardonnay characters and to allow the soils and the character of the region to be displayed.
"The 2021 growing conditions at Indigo were exceptional cool. The wine reflects this, coming in at only at only 12.6% alc. Its quite chablisques and the oak treatment is low key classy, a nod to the big C. The acid, while noticeable is in the background and quite digestible, which combines beautifully with the pitch perfect fruit, while subtle its surprisingly persistent on the palate. Also don't serve too cold. Well done and considering the wine's Beechworth origins, it represents solid value." TC
On the 2019 Vintage : "Hand picked and destemmed fruit, fermented in barrel with wild yeast followed by 12 months' maturation in French oak (20% new). A shining, bright and breezy citrus-infused chardonnay that lays out why chardonnay is the the grape of the Beechworth region. Boasts a freshness of citrus and stone fruit, gentle florals, flint, crème brûlée texture and a lick of lingering spice. Oak is a background thought, the fruit is the star. One smart vinous package." 94pts - Jeni Port - Wine Companion
