What a beautiful bottle of wine. What a beautiful Chardonnay. This is why Chardonnay from the Tumbarumba wine region is so highly acclaimed. Yellow stone fruit flavours are served in powerful measure; spicy oak laces and complements the fruit perfectly; the finish then introduces chalk, mineral, lemonade, and dried herb notes. It's beautiful. It's delicious. It's a big yes. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully textured, delivering concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavours before a chalky mineral thread develops through the mid-palate. Fresh acidity provides precision and drive, while subtle oak influence adds depth without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is long, focused, and impressively persistent. Initially they were content to sell the grapes to other makers, but that changed with the release of the ’06 Shiraz, which won top gold in its class at the London International Wine & Spirit Competition.

In Nov ’09 the ’08 Eden Road Long Road Hilltops Shiraz, made from Moppity Vineyards grapes, won the Jimmy Watson Trophy. These awards are among a cascade of golds for its Shiraz, Riesling, Tumbarumba Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Production (and sales) have soared and all the grapes from the estate are now used for the Moppity Vineyards brand. The Lock & Key range provides exceptional value for money. Moppity has also established Coppabella, a separate venture, in Tumbarumba.
