Ocean Eight Pinot Noir 2021
The Wine
New vintage release of Pinot Noir from our vineyard in Tuerong on the Mornington Peninsula.
Planted in 1999, the Pinot Noir paddock features 16 acres of vines made up of the clones 114, 115 & MV6. The combination of these clones, the vineyard site & horticultural practises (e.g. yield restrictions & soils protection), produce Pinot Noir that is elegant & flavoursome, aromatic & delicate.
Ripening in the summer of 2021 progressed steadily and without much intrusion from inclement weather, in fact it was blue skies and sunny most days. The new 2021 vintage has delicate smell of freshly picked light red fruits with a hint of violets as well. Firm ripe cherries and a hint of aged cherry wood and five spice. Great persistence and length with graceful fine tannin. OCEAN EIGHT
93 points Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion) "Overall, the ’21 pinots from Mornington Peninsula have plenty of acidity and need more time to settle. And the colours are quite pale, even by pinot standards. This is light garnet with attractive florals, wafts of fresh herbs and warm earth. It’s flavoured with red cherries, sumac, charcuterie and even an appealing saline character. There’s no obvious new oak character, just the merest hint of woodsy spices. Medium bodied, supple tannins and very appealing."
