Shobbrock 'Ottantotto' Shiraz 2020
The Wine
Derived from small quantities of old vine fruit off 90-year-old knarred Shiraz vines planted in the sands of ‘Vine Vale’ - yielding approx. 650 kilograms across a 2.2ha site. With the tiny berries and an abundance of stalks, this equates to about 2hl or 200 liters per ha.
After nearly three months on skins in open fermenters, the tannins build up and then mellow graciously. The result produces exquisite, fine and melt in your mouth tannins. This is one of the purest expressions of old vine Barossa Shiraz you’ll experience. A rare elixir that pleasures both mind and body!

About the Wine Maker
After 12 years of growing grapes and making wines on our farm in Seppeltsfield things have come to an end. We now have 2 hectares of vines in Flaxman Valley... We will eventually end up with around 5 hectares of vines and a mixed orchard of fruit and nut trees. The Farm sits at 540 meters above the ocean.
The soils are old and acidic consisting of sandy loam over yellow orange clay. The sandy loam profile is scattered with rose quartz while the clay layers have shadows of mica. The wines should be lean and tight, holding fine acidity. This next journey will be an exciting ride. For now, we will continue to make a small amount of wine from some old vineyards in Vine Vale.
