The Wine

This wine comprising 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Most of the Sauvignon Blanc fruit had 8 hours skin contact prior to pressing. The Semillon component is crushed and pressed immediately after picking. This wine was 100% barrel fermented with predominantly larger barrels used. All went through natural yeast fermentation. The extended lees contact helps fill out the middle palate and gives this wine the extra dimension it is known for.

The nose of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon shows bright and fresh citrus with a hint of gooseberry, following through onto the palate the citrus, gooseberry and ripening nashi shine through with crisp, balanced acid, giving the wine great length and a well-rounded lingering finish. This is one of the best we have seen for some years due to the cooler, ideal vintage conditions. Cellar up to 8 years. Sorrenberg

"An anticipated release!...Tightly wound. Very. A pent up and structured release with bony acidity under just-ripe stone fruit, lemon, young almond characters and flinty, slate-like mineral characters in spades. Yum. It’s steely and taut, a racier expression of this stellar wine, and good for it in refreshment factor, scintillating freshness and detail. Love it. As complex and layered as other releases? Perhaps not, but it positions itself in a different frame here, if not more serious in a way, or at least destined for longer cellaring time or enjoying over extended time tucked away. Bonza." - 96 Points Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Wine Maker

Sorrenberg Vineyard was established in 1984 by Barry and Jan Morey and situated on the outskirts of Beechworth. It is surrounded by forest on two sides and Stony Creek runs across the back boundary.

It is a 3 hectare vineyard at an elevation of 560 meters set mainly on granite rock with a sandy loam, which does have the advantage of being on the border where the granite meets the red mudstone, giving the soil greater water holding capacity. The finesse and elegance of Sorrenberg wines can be attributed to the fact that it is one of the highest vineyards on granite soil in the Beechworth region. The varieties grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Gris and Merlot.
