The Wine

With a La Niña weather pattern controlling the season, the wet spring and start to the summer delayed bud burst and flowering. Below average temperatures and rainfall over summer allowed the grapes to ripen slowly but evenly, resulting in great concentration of flavour and good natural acidity.

Winemaking :: • The fruit was hand picked, chilled overnight. • Hand sorted and 100% destemmed into a combination of concrete and stainless steel fermenters. • The fruit was cold soaked for approximately 4 days at 12˚C. • A natural ferment managed with a combination of pump overs and plunging. • Fermented on skins for 14 - 20 days and then pressed to tank before being racked to barrel.

A burst of spice, white pepper and potpourri are a welcome entrée to this wine. A mix of strawberry, red plum, dark cherry and star anise glide across the palate. There is a salty meat/charcuterie edge that adds to the lovely savoury/fruit balance of this wine. Fine mineral tannins provide a gentle grip and focus on the finish. TMXT

About the Wine Maker

Ten Minutes by Tractor’s first labelled vintage took place in 2000, a partnership of 3 family owned vineyards coming together to produce wine for the first time under one label. Martin and Karen Spedding purchased the company in 2004 retaining the personal and commercial relationships with the founding growers of which you can find their names immortalised on some of the single vineyard bottlings each year. Fast forward to current day and Ten Minutes by Tractor has solidified themselves amongst some of the most sought after producers of the Mornington Peninsula producers along with arguably some of the best single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir bottlings in Australia. The epicentre of the winery’s history is firmly rooted in the subregion of Main Ridge, where several of their single vineyard wines are sourced from alongside owned and leased vineyards around Balnarring + Merricks.
