The Wine

Old vine Dolcetto from Dave Fletcher's new project Cantina della Stazione.

This wine oozes dark cherry fruit, plums, grilled herbs, lavender, liquorice, some incense and graphite, combined with an extremely fine tannin structure, which gives the wine a serious touch. It proves that in the right winemaker's hands, Dolcetto can be a serious alternative to Barbera and Nebbiolo.

The grapes come from 60-year-old vines in the Bricco Capre vineyard in Alba. Fermented with natural local yeasts in open tanks with manual pigéage (punch downs), and aged for 8 months in over 10-year-old barriques. Only 2,000 bottles produced.

About the Wine Maker

The story of Aussie Dave Fletcher is one of struggle, passion and determination to win over the local community and in turn the greater wine world that an historical region such as Barolo or Barbaresco can accept outsiders who believe in the region as passionately as if they were born there. Now an established producer of Barbersco alongside Nebbiolo d’Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d’Asti, Langhe Chardonnay as well as his 'The Minion' Aussie vino project.
