The Wine

"Located adjacent east to Savigny Village, the wine does not overpower, does not overplay its hand - captures the 'Savigny' style with aplomb. A pleasing marriage of all elements. Accessible now with a decant but will age well too - day 3 as good as day 1! VC

This vineyard is cultivated at mid-slope close to the village and adjoins the cemetery next to 'Les Serpentieres'.  It includes different types of terrain, comprising of deep, red earth on the upper level and stony ground on the remaining three-quarters. The vineyard is perfectly south-facing.)

55 years old vines, 10,000 vines per hectare, 35 hl per hectare. An average of 4,000 bottles are produced each year. The grapes are hand harvested and destemmed, traditional vinification with natural yeasts fermentation, 10 days cold maceration. 2 weeks cuvaison. Aging for 12 months in old French oak barrels (20% new oak, cooper: Rousseau) Bottled after at least 10 months aging.

Lifted and perfumed wines with notes of red fruits, red berries and red cherries. Very floral and elegant 1er Cru, with violet notes and subtle earthiness.Medium bodied 1er Cru, red berries, spices, subtle yet deep and nuances wine on the palate. Even if this is probably the lighter and more red fruited of the 1er Cru they make, this is very complex and delicious. Aux Clous is soft, plush and charming.

About the Wine Maker

Louis Chenu began a winemaking dynasty when he purchased various parcels of Savigny-les-Beaune in 1914. The Domaine is now in its fifth generation, with dynamic duo sisters Juliette and Caroline firmly at the helm. The Domaine is composed mostly of 40 to 60 years old vines and are considered some of the best ‘under the radar’ wines from the Cote de Beaune. In the early days, from humble beginnings, the previous Chenu generations mainly sold their grapes to negociants. The sisters are now making their mark in their own right, with the quality of the wines now gathering attention far and wide.

The vineyards are organic certified. The sisters working the vines as the season demands - never too much, never too little. The result of this care in the vineyard and observance of tradition in the winery, produce wines that are truly reflective of their place, honoring their Savigny origins. The wines manifested characters are a product of of soft and considered hands. They caress, refresh and highly drinkable. A Gourmand’s delight as well as super value propositions considering the current Burgundy pricing climate.
