The Wine

Modewarre is Mulline’s standout spot, and it’s easy to see why. The Brown Magpie Vineyard lies just 20 kilometers inland from the surf coast, set on a blend of sandy loam, estuary marl, and limestone—perfect soils for Pinot with both elegance and vibrancy.

The Mulline Single Vineyard labels feature artwork by the talented Amy Wright, a Geelong-based artist known for her abstract landscape paintings, especially of the Otways in the Surf Coast sub-region. We asked Amy to create her first vineyard painting—an oil on canvas inspired by the Geelong Region and our future vineyard. Portions of this piece are showcased on the front labels of Mulline's Single Vineyard wines.

97 Pts Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion 'A bright, deep crimson. Ultra perfumed and lifted with its bouquet of brambly red fruits, rose bush and warm spices. Medium bodied, this is both sumptuous and beautifully delineated on the very long, classically structured palate. Absolutely tops from beginning to end and a wine destined to age effortlessly over the next decade or longer.'

95 Pts Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front 'This is an interesting wine, and a very good one. It’s earthen and brambly with red cherry and smoky, stalky characters littered throughout. It’s ripe, and has good mouthfeel, and is finely stitched with tannin, and has more than its fair share of umami-like characters; it’s an earth-pinot. What’s most impressive about this wine is its extension through the finish; it just keeps on pushing. It’s yet more evidence of the excellence of Mulline'

About the Wine Maker

Mulline is the creation of two Ben’s, Mullen and Hine who set out to showcase exciting single site expressions from the Geelong region with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at the centre of this. Ben Mullen heads up the winemaking and prior to setting up Mulline cut his teeth at the likes of Domaine Dujac, Yarra Yering, Oakridge, Leeuwin Estate, Torbreck & Craggy Range before returning to deep dive into the diversity of Geelong’s terroir whilst at Clyde Park. Geelong geographically is a large GI and has a lot of diversity in both soil and climate, evident in Mulline’s single vineyard wines. From the ‘by the sea’ Portarlington vineyard east of the Geelong CBD exposed to Port Phillip Bay to the warmer clay dominant Sutherland Creek vineyard North West towards Ballarat.
