The Wine

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot. Aged in an average of 35% new, French oak for between 15 and 18 months prior to being bottled.

Full throttle styling here but with the elegant and confident Graves bloodline pulsating underneath. Superb balance on this hi-fidelity and red fruited youthful expression that’s bursting with vitality. Requires a good decant to enjoy now but worth the effort. Match with Bistecca Fiorentina rare to medium rare over coals. This will also be a long lived vin for those with the patience, otherwise decant and rejoice - Electric! TC

92-93/100 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator "Dark plum and boysenberry compote notes are fleshy in feel, infused with dark tea, ganache and licorice accents. There's a smoldering hint through the finish. Intriguing."

93-95/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Latour Martillac bursts from the glass with bold cassis, chocolate-covered cherries and plum preserves scents followed up by smoked meats, violets and aniseed hints plus a waft of Provence herbs. Full-bodied, firm and fine-grained in the mouth, the palate is laden with juicy fruit and savory layers, finishing long and fragrant."

91-94/100  Antonio Galloni, Vinous "The 2018 Latour-Martillac is powerful, dense and explosive, with tremendous richness and energy that drive through to the palate staining finish. Abnormally low yields produced an unusually sumptuous, rich Latour-Martillac. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, gravel and incense build as this arrestingly beautiful wine shows off its racy, curvy personality. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot. Tasted three times."

About the Wine Maker

Latour-Martillac in Bordeaux’s Pessac Leognan's appellation is one of the best value under the radar Estates of the region. Although it was famously served at the coronation of King George VI, it has seems to have been somewhat overlooked in recent years. Its striking art deco label was designed by Alfred Kressman in the 1930s and it remains under the Kressman’s ownership today. Its name is derived from the 12th century tower on the estate, all that is left of a small, fortified castle although the name Martillac was added to differentiate the property from the First Growth, Chateau Latour. It was awarded classed growth status in the Graves classification of 1959, and was one just six to be awarded for both its reds and whites.
