Tempo d'Angelus 2023
The Wine
Tempo d'Angélus from Château Angélus showcases the exceptional quality of that vintage. The 2022 is 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.
The 2023 bursts with vibrant aromas of fresh red berries, tiny berries, and cherries, complemented by gentle hints of oak. On the palate, it offers a sense of verticality, lifted by fine acidity that brings great freshness and a pure fruit character. The finish lingers, revealing delicate notes of roasted coffee beans and oak.
Tempo, a newer addition to the d'Angélus range, is crafted from grapes harvested from vineyards acquired by Château Angelus in 2017. These vineyards are situated on splendid clay-limestone slopes in Castillon-la-Bataille, Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, and Sainte-Colombe, mere kilometers from Saint-Émilion, and are transitioning to organic farming. The dedication invested in the Grand Vin of Château d'Angélus is equally applied to Tempo, which is touted as "Bordeaux, crafted like a Grand Cru."
As a Bordeaux appellation wine, Tempo presents a more accessible version of its prestigious predecessors, yet it embodies the same richness and intricacy as the Grand Vin and Second Wine, without the necessity of a 15 to 20-year maturation period.
91 Pts James Suckling 'Racy fruit with hawthorn, rose hips, red berries and cherries. Linear, with a nice structure, but nothing heavy from the fruit flesh in the middle. Fine-grained, with medium body and a chewy but juicy finish. Needs two more years to allow the fruit tannins to round off. More bones than flesh this year. Drink after 2026.'
