Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Di Verduno 2021
The Wine
17++ Pts Walter Spelling, jancisrobinson.com (Jun 2025) ‘Verduno. Grapes came from Rive Rocca, Rocche dell’Ormo, Boscato, Pisapola and Campasso. ruby with orange tinges. Minerally and savoury with slow-to-emerge perfumed cherry. White-pepper and old-leather hints. Succulent and with finely sculpted tannins on the palate. Pure, if still very taut and a little austere, and in need of more time. Drink 2027-2038'
94 Pts Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate 'Fruit for the Fratelli Alessandria 2021 Barolo del Comune di Verduno comes from five vineyard sites in Verduno: Riva Rocca, Rocche dell’Olmo, Campasso, Pisapola and Boscato. This was the first Barolo del Comune di Verduno to hit the market (with the 2017 vintage). The bouquet focuses on redcurrant and tart cherry, and there is a pinch of cinnamon buried in there as well. This is a pretty Barolo that manages elegance and an easy-drinking style. This 20,000-bottle release ages in Slavonian and French oak botti for three years. Drink 2026-2040 Tasted June 2025.'
93+ Pts Audry Frick, JebDunnuck.com May 2025 (Best ever score for this wine) 'Bottled only a month before I tasted it and coming from five vineyards in Verduno, the 2021 Barolo Del Comune Di Verduno is very pretty on the nose, with a good deal of complexity and purity lifting from the glass with aromas of fresh raspberries, strawberry, fresh spices, fennel, incense, and roses. The palate is focused and energetic, with bright acidity, finely coiled tannins, a salty, mouthwatering feel, and a light, savory finish. It is both tension-packed and has the finesse of Verduno throughout this Comune bottling. Drink over the next 15 years. Drink: 2025-2040’
90-92 Pts Antonio Galloni, Vinous 'The 2021 Barolo del Comune di Verduno is a blend of five vineyards across the village. Aromatic and polished yet also wonderfully deep, the 2021 is shaping up to be a real beauty. There’s gorgeous density here, not to mention tons of personality. Tasted Jan 2025.'

About the Wine Maker
Fratelli Alessandria stands as one of Piedmont's hidden gems. The Alessandria family crafts compelling, traditionally-made wines from their estate vineyards in Verduno and Monforte d'Alba, offering them at prices that are reasonable by today's standards. Those who appreciate structured, cellar-worthy Barolos will find these wines indispensable. Antonio Galloni of Vinous.com notes that the Alessandria family has been part of this serene landscape since the mid-19th century. Established in 1870, Fratelli Alessandria was at the heart of Barolo winemaking in Verduno, a place where the dry style of Nebbiolo wines we cherish today was first developed, and where wines were bottled individually rather than shipped in bulk. This led to Verduno's international acclaim as the epitome of Barolo, coveted by collectors throughout Europe. Currently, Verduno is undergoing a revival, with the Alessandria "brothers" at the helm, elevating Verduno's wines to their former glory. It remains a family endeavor, with Gian Battista, Alessandro, and Alessandro's son, Vittore, as custodians of this age-old estate. Verduno's offerings are precisely what connoisseurs seek in Barolo: intricate yet not overpowering, robust yet delicate. The Alessandria family, Vittore remarks, reflects the terrain's character, honoring their ancestors' legacy while also "looking ahead" to ensure each bottle captures Barolo's quintessential nature from Verduno.
