Bouchard Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets 2010
The Wine
Bouchard have been cultivating vineyards here since 1791, now own 2.32 hectares of this 9.39-hectare premier cru plot at the northernmost edge of Beaune, just beside the Savigny-lès-Beaune vineyard of the same name. The vineyard owes its name to the Germanic tribe of the Marcomans who, it appears, settled here in the 3rd. century AD. The layers of grey, marly chalk give this Premier Cru distinction, character, elegance and bouquet.
The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. After total or partial destemming, fermentation takes place in small containers, with gentle pressing to ensure the best vinification. Depending on the vintage’s character, vatting lasts between 7.5 and 20 days. The wine then matures for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 30-40% of which are new. On the nose, fruity aromas mingle with a musky touch and a hint of delicate oak. Firm and well-structured, it’s both full-bodied and elegant, with a distinct personality and excellent ageing potential.
