The Wine

Clos du Marquis, established in 1902, was initially considered the second wine of Léoville Las Cases. Thanks to the outstanding quality from the “Petit Clos” terroir, it eventually became its own independent label.

About the Wine Maker

The single vineyard of Clos du Marquis has undisputable quality. Although it is unclassified, it’s neither a classed growth nor a cru bourgeois, it is as sought after as many of its more expensive peers. Its allure lies in its privileged position and pedigree. Sitting in St Juliens most northernmost point, right next to Château Latour, it holds prime Medoc terroir. Plus it is made and owned by the same team behind super-second Leoville-Las-Cases, the Delon family. In fact, Clos du Marquis started out in 1902 as Las Cases’ second wine, named after the Petit Clos owned by the Marquis de Las Cases, but its quality was so good it became a wine in its own right. Winemaker Bruno Rolland added a second wine, La Petite Marquise, further highlighting the individuality of Clos du Marquis.
