Gaia Notios Red 2024
The Wine
Gaia Notios Red is a wood-aged red wine from Gaia Wines, crafted with Syrah and Agiorgitiko grapes in the Peloponnese region. It’s made from exceptionally ripe grapes grown in a low-yield, unirrigated vineyard in the hills near the Nemea wine region, where vines thrive in shallow clay and lime-rich soils. The grapes are hand-harvested in 20-kilogram boxes, cooled before vinification, and soaked for 48 hours in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures. Fermentation uses selected yeasts at a controlled temperature, followed by cold stabilization. Created to highlight the potential of native Greek varieties, Gaia Notios Red is a lively, spicy young wine.

About the Wine Maker
Gaia Wines resulted from a partnership between Agronomist Leon Karatsolas and one of Greece's leading wine figures, Yiannis Paraskevopoulos. The duo began their venture in Santorini in 1994, producing a thousand cases of modern, clean OPAP Santorini white. Having met with immediate success, the pair built a state of the art winery in Koutsi, Upper Nemea in 1997. While they still produce superior Santorini, Agiorgitiko is currently their leading card. A proposed super appellation for Upper Nemea would put their vineyards in the most coveted zone in the country. Now, with several vintages of one of Greece's most highly-rated red wines under their belts, Gaia now produces 30,000 cases per year. GREEK WINEMAKERS.COM
