Louis Chenu et Filles, Savigny-Lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavieres 2022
The Wine
The vineyard is located to the northeast of Savigny Village, part of the lower slopes of Corton. This is classic Chenu style, delicateness with seductive contours. This wine aims to caress rather than control. Light and transparent on the eye, with subtle red fruit fragrances drifting upwards that morph seamlessly onto the palate, with filigree tannins in the background. Freshness is the key here and it captures the essence of Les Lavieres to a tee. For the gourmand, this is quite pleasurable. Drink now with a decant or cellar up to 2035+ VC
17/20 Pts Matthew Hayes, Jancisrobinson.com 'Three parcels of 70-year-old vines, south facing on limestone. Cask sample.Mid ruby. The nose is quite timid and closed. There’s a real dollop of raspberry though. It’s stylish, fresh and juicy with a salty mid palate and finish. Pure and showing real honesty. 2028-2038'
90 Pts Allen Meadows, Burghound 'A background whisper of menthol sits atop the aromas of fresh essence of black raspberry, poached plum and floral nuances that are trimmed in noticeable wood. There is fine volume and mid-palate concentration to the opulently rich, even seductive, and delicious flavors that culminate in a lingering, stony and balanced finale. This is a bit woody at present but a few years of keeping should largely prove sufficient to integrate it.'

About the Wine Maker
Louis Chenu began a winemaking dynasty when he purchased various parcels of Savigny-les-Beaune in 1914. The Domaine is now in its fifth generation, with dynamic duo sisters Juliette and Caroline firmly at the helm. The Domaine is composed mostly of 40 to 60 years old vines and are considered some of the best ‘under the radar’ wines from the Cote de Beaune. In the early days, from humble beginnings, the previous Chenu generations mainly sold their grapes to negociants. The sisters are now making their mark in their own right, with the quality of the wines now gathering attention far and wide.
The vineyards are organic certified. The sisters working the vines as the season demands - never too much, never too little. The result of this care in the vineyard and observance of tradition in the winery, produce wines that are truly reflective of their place, honoring their Savigny origins. The wines manifested characters are a product of of soft and considered hands. They caress, refresh and highly drinkable. A Gourmand’s delight as well as as super value propositions considering the current Burgundy pricing climate.
