Lucy M Lirto Red 2025 1L
The Wine
A litre sized assemblage of Pinot Noir (75%), Merlot (15%) & Cabernet Franc (10%), sourced from three of Anton's key sites. The Pinot Noir comes from the Griggs family's 'Cemetery Block' in the Piccadilly Valley, on alluvial black sandy soil. The Cabernet Franc is from 30 year old, spur pruned vines in Totness, on black sand over petrified schist. The Merlot comes from old vines on deep red clay at Brackenwood in Hope Forest.
The grapes were destemmed & wild fermented for 2 weeks in wooden fermenters & clay before being basket pressed. The Pinot was then aged in ceramic, and the Merlot & Franc in oak, before the final blend was assembled. Unfiltered & bottled without additions.
A table wine in the truest sense, with 7 glasses to every bottle. Bright raspberry, red cherry & wild strawberry are lifted by a touch of leafy spice, carried by soft, supple tannins & a gentle crunch of acidity. At 10%, it takes a light chill beautifully & disappears alarmingly fast. It's affordable, delicious & made to be shared. This is the wine for friends, laughter & a crowded table.
Luscious and pure - finishes with amaro baci!

About the Wine Maker
Anton van Klopper’s commitment to making wines without any additions and his unwavering, unapologetic attitude have made him a pinup boy of natural wine—not just in Australia, but internationally. His craft of natural wine is a straightforward exercise: it involves vinifying grapes, and grapes alone, without any additions whatsoever. Few debates in wine have been so charged or divisive but Anton’s approach remains on course.
Despite Anton’s wide renown, this is a super-small operation. The Lucy M vineyard and winery sit in the Basket Range, a picturesque pocket of the Adelaide Hills, where Anton also grows vegetables for The Summertown Aristologist—his nearby restaurant and cellar door (run together with Commune of Buttons). Anton also sources fruit from vineyards both in and around the Basket Range, which are rented and tended by him and his friend Jasper Button (all have gradually been converted to organic viticulture.)
