The Wine

From the Winemaker- Made with a good lick of grapes from the super cool climate, Casey’s vineyard nestled just outside of the township of Oberon, high in the Wambuul Valley- Chardonnay and Shiraz to be specific. There’s also Chardonnay from Chalou Wines and Merlot from Patina wines to complete the package. The wine is made up of 2 parts, the first- the earlier picked grapes from Chalou and Patina were through their ferments and settling out by the time the later picked grapes from Casey’s landed in the winery. When the later grapes arrived in the winery, the earlier component was racked off It’s lees and combined with this later juice. From there a nice slow ferment ticked along until the sugar was in the where we wanted it, around 12g/L. At this stage we hand bottled. The wine was held on lees for 12 months until release in April 2024. Bright, crisp citrus, apple blossom, green strawberry and papaya, soft textural and full of personality. Enjoy!

About the Wine Maker

Mark & Sandy Renzaglia took on the challenge of establishing a small vineyard in O’Connell Valley near Bathurst in 1997. There was no power, no town water, no neighbours growing grapes, just determination. Now their son Sam is on the hunt, taking Renzaglia Wines to the next level, seeking modern expressions from grapes sourced locally, and really pushing the conversation around responsible, sustainable, respectful farming in NSW. Renzaglia The family home, the Bella Luna Vineyard, and the winery are nestled in the rolling hills of the locality of O’Connell. It looks out over the O’Connell Valley to the north-east and further towards the Winburndale Nature Reserve, Mt Ovens and Mt Horrible. From this patch of dirt, the Renzaglia family have been tending to two acres of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot since 1997. Recent plantings of Tempranillo, Grenache, Shiraz, Viognier, and Chardonnay were added to the mix in 2020, plus Sangiovese this year.
