Fletcher Barbaresco 'Recte Pete' 2022
The Wine
Crafted with precision and heritage, the Recta Pete Barbaresco is a beautifully expressive wine made from four prized crus: Faset (40%), Ca’ Grossa (30%), Serragrilli (20%) and Ronchi (10%). The name Recta Pete means “shoot straight” — a tribute to winemaker David’s Scottish ancestry of arrow makers and his clear vision for crafting pure, elegant Barbaresco.
This is 100% destemmed fruit, open fermented with no post-ferment soak, then matured gently in old 300-litre oak barrels (over 10 years old) to respect the delicate Nebbiolo fruit. While Barbaresco can legally be released after just 12 months in barrel, David goes further, ageing this wine for 24 months in oak plus 3 months in bottle, resulting in about 27 months of total maturation.
Expect a Barbaresco of beautiful balance and finesse, layered with fragrant red berries, dried roses, savoury spice and fine, persistent tannins — a true expression of its historic vineyards and a must for any Nebbiolo lover.
94 points Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 'Cherry, almond, liquorice and aniseed, a dusting of baking spice. It’s medium to full-bodied, red fruits with a nice crunch to acidity, tannin has a gently dusty and peppery profile, the perfume is present, and the wine, despite the warm vintage, has a cool and pleasing ‘mineral’ character to it. Finish is crisp and long, with some orange peel bite to close. Excellent.
