The Wine

100% Nebbiolo from the magnificent 2021 growing season. Super fine tannins & a laser sharp focus to this release. Cherry, tart cranberry - juicy red fruits.  Subtle graphite and white pepper on the nose with some lavender & potpourri too.  A terrific release under the beautiful new label from Delisgnore.

94 Pts, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 'Red fruits, a steel-like top note, liquorice root, white pepper, mountain herbs, orange peel, dried flowers – such perfume, and ‘of a place’ character here. It’s brightly lit, succulent, red cherry and again that dusty white pepper tannin grip, cranberry crunch, with a lively finish of excellent length, offering a cinch of orange peel and raw almond. It’s a very specific sort of wine, but gee, it seems like a very good vintage for this producer. Strawberry, pepper, perfume, brightness, is the summary.'

About the Wine Maker

Cantina Delsignore are based in the Alto Piemonte wine making region of Gattiara.  The Gattinara is a wine of ancient origins, whose vineyards were planted by the Romans in the 2nd century BC.  At the end of WW2, the Nervi Family were the owners of vineyards in Gattinara, and were dedicated to the production of wine. Elsa Nervi married Attilio Delsignore, who too was a producer of a wine then known as “Spanna”. Their combined properties resulted in five hectares of great ‘cru’ vineyards: Permolone, Lurghe, Sottomonte, Molsino, Villino.

In 1960 Attilio bottled wine under his own name and his “Nervi-Delsignore” Spanna came to life. After a decade of successful activity, health problems forced him to abandon the production of wine but his attachment to his land and his persevering nature led him to continue growing grapes in the vineyards which today belong to his descendants.

Today Stefano Dorelli at Cantina Delsignore continues this exciting journey with the dedication, skill and tenacity inherited from the founder, Attilio Delsignore.

Antonio Galloni 'I was absolutely blown away by the wines I tasted. Delsignore is among the first-generation wineries in Alto Piemonte that are making waves.'
