Cantine Delsignore, Gattinara ‘il Putto’ 2018
The Wine
A stunning release from an exceptional Alto Piemonte vintage.
The elegant & red fruited nature of this wine is a foil to the underlying power & minerality of the wine. Rose water & violets giving way to some of that classic alpine herb in the background. It’s succulent but also exhibiting savoury cherry notes. Very long with balsamic & ferrous notes giving way a very stony feel to the finish. A really stellar release from Stefano. Drink 2024-2040+
95 Pts, Tip Top Tipple, Top Value - Kasia Sobiesiak (TWF) 'Such a tantalising perfume, condensed core of aromas, that keeps on giving. Dark cherries, cranberries, dried peppermint, cumin and just a hint of leather with boot polish. Surely, roses are here too and a note of iodine holding the tension of the aromas. Generous red brick dust tannins with blood orange grip finish. Delicious. Clean form with instant charm and delivering lots of well-defined flavours. In my opinion, it’s super ready to enjoy now but definitely will age. Looks like a great value too, even though the price has been creeping up.'
94 Pts Antonio Galloni 'The 2018 il Putto Gattinara, is a powerful brooding wine. Ample and broad on the palate, the 2018 offers a compelling interplay of intensity and old-school structure. It is a super-appealing combination to say the least. Wild dark cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, menthol, insense & licorice all build with a bit of coaxing. This is a complex and seriously beautiful Gattinara.' Drink 2026-2038

About the Wine Maker
Cantina Delsignore are based in the Alto Piemonte wine making region of Gattiara. The Gattinara is a wine of ancient origins, whose vineyards were planted by the Romans in the 2nd century BC. At the end of WW2, the Nervi Family were the owners of vineyards in Gattinara, and were dedicated to the production of wine. Elsa Nervi married Attilio Delsignore, who too was a producer of a wine then known as “Spanna”. Their combined properties resulted in five hectares of great ‘cru’ vineyards: Permolone, Lurghe, Sottomonte, Molsino, Villino.
In 1960 Attilio bottled wine under his own name and his “Nervi-Delsignore” Spanna came to life. After a decade of successful activity, health problems forced him to abandon the production of wine but his attachment to his land and his persevering nature led him to continue growing grapes in the vineyards which today belong to his descendants.
Today Stefano Dorelli at Cantina Delsignore continues this exciting journey with the dedication, skill and tenacity inherited from the founder, Attilio Delsignore.
Antonio Galloni 'I was absolutely blown away by the wines I tasted. Delsignore is among the first-generation wineries in Alto Piemonte that are making waves.'
