The Wine

- Classic topflight producer!
- Outstanding vineyard site!
- Aged & coming into its drinking window!
- Tick, tick tick….

91-94 Pts ‘Allen Meadows, Burghound … beautifully layered aromas of plum, spice, dark currant and freshly turned earth. The highly energetic and delineated middle weight plus flavors exude noticeable minerality on the powerful and focused finish that displays outstanding depth and persistence. Moreover, the finish really fans out as it sits on the palate. Drink 2029+’

91-93 Pts Neal Martin vinous.com '…The nose features layers of blackberry, raspberry and crushed stone aromas, and the sweet, candied palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. Blood orange and quince infuse the red fruit toward the finish. Excellent. Drink 2022 - 2038.'

94 Pts, Gary Walsh, Winefront '... The wine takes 40-50% new oak, and 50-60% second fill. A fair volume of plum and dark cherry fruit, spice, dark roast coffee beans, orange oil and rose perfume submerged under that. It’s dark, lush and toasty, some raspberry juiciness, cool ‘mineral’ acidity offering a light tang, and fine grainy, slightly charry tannin runs on a long and ample finish. I’d rather a bit less oak but reckon it will settle with appropriate bottle age. Drink: 2023 - 2033+'

About the Wine Maker

Based in Nuits-St-Georges, Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and has been under the guidance of Erwan Faiveley since 2005. A few years ago, quite a few… we had the privilege of hosting one of our most memorable Masterclasses lead by Domaine Faiveley, where we looked at the 2012 Vintage. Long ago the Domaine had a reputation for producing good but at times charmless wines that required much cellar time – sadly some of the older wines have never come round. The tasting was a revelation! The wines were breathtaking…a reflection of the Domaine’s new direction under the guidance and vision of the then younger Erwan Faiveley. The breathtaking wines were a culmination of new vineyard practices, inauguration of a new gravity feed winery and adoption of contemporary winemaking philosophies – all of which combined to captured the full potential and greatness of their terriors. The wines were much more open and pure - charming while still retaining depth and structure. Pleasure giving from the get go but also with ageing capacity given the now harmonious /balanced state of the wines. A contender for one of the most improved Domaines in Burgundy over the last decade!
