The Wine

92 Pts Jeni Port, Wine Pilot Immediately friendly – a welcome sign – and built for early drinking enjoyment. Abundant scents in bright red cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, anise with a nice serve of lifted florals is your introduction. While the scent is bright and lively, the palate brings more depth and substance with a touch of wild herbal pinosity that sings loud and true and works with the sinewy fineness of the tannins. It’s lightly savoury, quite enticing. . . and definitely friendly.’

92 Pts Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot West Aussie Pinot continues its ascendency. This fine example is from a single vineyard in Pemberton. It spends ten months maturing in French oak barriques, 20% of them new. Pale crimson in colour, this is very much from the savoury end of the spectrum on the nose, which is all mushrooms and turned earth with beef stock, rotting wood in a wet forest and animal skins. It offers a fine texture with bright acidity and silky tannins, with a persistent finish. Lovers of savoury Pinot will be entranced, offering pleasure for at least the next half dozen years.’

About the Wine Maker

Silkwood Estate’s focus on quality is of the utmost importance, with winemaking focused on expressing the distinctive varietal traits for which Western Australia’s Pemberton region is renowned.

Set in Pemberton’s premier wine growing region amidst towering karri forest, Silkwood’s 24-hectare vineyard is blessed with gravelly soils and cool, even temperatures during the ripening periods.

The prevailing temperate climate and cool ripening temperatures make Pemberton a premium cool-climate wine region. It was these characteristics that sealed the decision to establish the Silkwood Estate vineyards at this site in 1998, focusing on the flagship Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc varietals.
