The Wine

Fermented in open fermenters, manually dug out and basket pressed, settled to tank before transferred to one-year-old, 2nd fill 3000 L French Oak Vat. Elevage for a further twenty months. Sixteenth continual release from vineyard.

Deep rich colour with attractive aromas of dark plums, blue fruits and fruit cake. The palate develops most elegantly, with a rich, powerful texture, opulence without any hint of heaviness, and perfect balance. Drinking beautifully upon release but will reward you with further cellaring.

96 Pts James Halliday Wine CompanionWild yeast-open fermented, 14 days on skins, matured in 76% French, 24% American oak (47% new), 23 months….gloriously intense and rich, focused and balanced. The more it is tasted, the better it is. 1675 bottles made.

95 Pts Shanteh Wale, Wine Pilot 'A benchmark wine for the region from a consistently high performing vineyard. The wine is matured in a large French Oak Vat for 23 months prior to bottling. Once again we see a well of aromas that reveal themselves the further into the depths you go. Black sapote, prune plums and blackberry. Granite, crushed volcanic rock and clove studs. African violets poke up through the undergrowth in a blossom of sweetness amongst earthy wood and oak tones. Grated nutmeg, cumin and cinnamon quill. It’s well built with upright tannins and tailored acidity. Drink now and will cellar very well, say 6-8 years. Drink with spiced and cured meats like Biltong and Bresola.'
